“Le Mix” mixed By Le Chic
November 21, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
Gigolo introduce Le Chic: a new female DJ duo from Spain who present here their first ever mix CD across twenty tracks of erotic electro futurism. From the sub-aquatic experimentalism of Drexciya to Patrick Pulsinger’s throbbing grooves or the synth riff freakout of The Requesters and Der Zyklus’s Kraftwerk infused beauty, ‘Le Mix’ traverses elements of italo, house, techno and electro into a modern dancefloor composite fused with soul and feeling. It cannot be said that Susana and Rebeca have a background that is consistent with being musicians - one a customising fashion designer and the other a geneticist - not exactly a typical start to a career in music.

Vaeth’s The Sound Of The Eighth Season
November 20, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
“The Sound of the Eighth Season” is not a mix compilation like all others. Even the fact that this series of Mix-CDs is facing its eighth edition now does not show many parallels to other (Techno) compilations. Besides the success of the “Season” series during the last seven years, Cocoon and Cocoon Recordings look back to a highly successful year since the Closing Party of 2006. The eighth season – themed “Freakshow” – broke all records. Despite a hard beginning with the move to “Privilege” exile, Cocoon Ibiza was able to boost both the numbers of visitors and the level of party spirit. Legendary nights, incredible DJ sets and live gigs, an almost unique crowd and a Sven Väth who was in top form during the whole summer.
VA - Dubstep Drama

Rinse FM is proud to present “Dubstep Drama“, the official soundtrack to the current Channel 4 TV series “Dubplate Drama”. Race through the twelve rollercoaster episodes and you’ll hear the sound of Croydon’s baddest bassheads percolating under the increasingly heavy drama, adding next level suspense and a whole new sonic dimension. Dubstep, a once-niche concern in places like Croydon, Chapeltown and Easton has turned into a force gathering pace in Osaka, Melbourne and Helsinki. Listen hard enough and you’ll hear the sparse remnants of 80s soul, heavy rave, molecule-shifting dub, valium jungle and energetic, shadowy garage, all spun up into something positive and powerful.
VA - 15×15 Vol.2 (RAM)
November 15, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
The Ram Records label continues to celebrate its 15 years in the music business with the second installment of the 15 tracks from 15 years CD collection. This release wasn’t entirely planned but due to the overwhelming response to the first CD with people saying we love the tracks on it but you missed this one, you missed that one, we felt it necessary to create this new CD. The artwork will be based around the existing Ram 15 logo that’s featured on all of our anniversary releases and tour flyers but in bold block colours so to give it an edge when displayed.

From the very first album ‘Dance Before The Police Come’ released back in 1990, right through to ‘Reclaim The Streets’ (2003), the standard achieved by Shut Up & Dance has always been at the highest level. Ant Miles and Liftin Spirit Records (the Ram Records offshoot) present this debut drum’n'bass album after 13 monumental years on the scene. Boxcutter - Glyphic

Boxcutter (real name Barry Lynn) returns for his second album on Planet Mu Recordings. Continuing his hugely successful trademark dubstep/electronica sound from the 2006 album “Oneiric”, the ante has definitely been upped and “Glyphic” certainly delivers. From the opening title track, Boxcutter’s totally unique sound excels. Floating pads and astral jazz samples sit above deep dub basses, with all manner of instruments thrown into the mix, resulting in a beautiful noise throughout. He pursues dubstep with “Bug Octet” and the dub inflected “J Dub”, and break orientated electronica with “Kaleid” and “Fieldtrip”. With the outstanding “Foxy” he blends deep bass, soulful organ and vocals with soaring pads and an infectious 2-step garage skippy break.

London’s latest club extraordinaire “BoomBox” teams up with forward-thinking Parisian label Kitsuné for an exciting DJ mix project. It was only a matter of time before the audacious “BoomBox” night, which has brought back dressing-up and fun on the dancefloor, would push its connection further with the imaginative Franco-Japanese imprint that’s breaking all the rules. BoomBox’s main resident DJ Jerry Bouthier has long helped establishing bridges with the Parisian gang, frequently sharing the bill with the Kitsuné DJs in Paris and abroad and nurturing a similar passionate fondness for all things fusing rock, electro, rave and everything else in between.
