VA - 15×15 Vol.2 (RAM)
November 15, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
The Ram Records label continues to celebrate its 15 years in the music business with the second installment of the 15 tracks from 15 years CD collection. This release wasn’t entirely planned but due to the overwhelming response to the first CD with people saying we love the tracks on it but you missed this one, you missed that one, we felt it necessary to create this new CD. The artwork will be based around the existing Ram 15 logo that’s featured on all of our anniversary releases and tour flyers but in bold block colours so to give it an edge when displayed.

Fierce (real name Daniel Burke) has been at the forefront of the drum’n'bass scene since the mid 90s, starting with his early excursions for No U-Turn at the age of 16, through involvement in scene defining classics such as “Alien Girl”, “Locust”, “The End” and “Tightrope” on prestigious labels such as Prototype, Metro, Virus, Ram, BC and 31 Records. Since launching his own Quarantine Recordings label in 2001, Fierce has created a harbour for like-minded individuals and has defined a sound with his label. Artists who have recorded for him include Fresh, D‑Bridge, Ed Rush & Optical, alongside new talents such as Break, Silent Witness and Survival. “Zenith” follows up last year’s “Dominion” album, which recieved widespread acclaim and established Quarantine as a byword for the highest quality drum’n'bass.
Shut Up & Dance - The Great British Public

From the very first album ‘Dance Before The Police Come’ released back in 1990, right through to ‘Reclaim The Streets’ (2003), the standard achieved by Shut Up & Dance has always been at the highest level. To the duo behind the label PJ & Smiley, making music is so much more than just a job, it’s a lifestyle… Their latest offering is ‘The Great British Public’, an album two years in the making, and it’s certainly been well worth the wait. The triple-CD package contains 14 brand new tracks from the originators plus many bonus remixed tracks.

Ant Miles and Liftin Spirit Records (the Ram Records offshoot) present this debut drum’n'bass album after 13 monumental years on the scene. CD1 features a special debut mix by Ant Miles of all the latest tracks, the majority of which are unreleased. Various high profile Ram artists have visited the Ram studios to work with Ant Miles over the last five years with phenomenal results, covering the bases with ‘Tear It Up’ featuring the vocals of Dianne Charlemagne through to the club smasher ‘Apparition’, a collaboration between Ant and Andy C. This album is a fitting testimony to the labels impact since it started back in 1994 and a celebration of the bonds between the producers involved, who are now legendary. The second CD will feature 12 specially selected tracks from the Liftin Spirit back catalogue, most of which have never previously been on CD.
Frog Pocket - Come On Primates Show Your Teeth

Frog Pocket returns for his second album on Mike Paradinas’ Planet Mu label. “Come On Primates Show Your Teeth” is a tentative, truly original exploration. Melding electronica and noise with folk influences, its easy to imagine the dramatic Ayr landscape Frog Pocket (aka John Charles Wilson) inhabits inspiring this album, although it’s not all wistful beauty… An accomplished violinist and creating the artwork himself, Frog Pocket inspires with his creativity, making “Come On Primates Show Your Teeth” set to be one of the electronica albums of the year.
Boxcutter - Glyphic
November 10, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
Boxcutter (real name Barry Lynn) returns for his second album on Planet Mu Recordings. Continuing his hugely successful trademark dubstep/electronica sound from the 2006 album “Oneiric”, the ante has definitely been upped and “Glyphic” certainly delivers. From the opening title track, Boxcutter’s totally unique sound excels. Floating pads and astral jazz samples sit above deep dub basses, with all manner of instruments thrown into the mix, resulting in a beautiful noise throughout. He pursues dubstep with “Bug Octet” and the dub inflected “J Dub”, and break orientated electronica with “Kaleid” and “Fieldtrip”. With the outstanding “Foxy” he blends deep bass, soulful organ and vocals with soaring pads and an infectious 2-step garage skippy break.
VA - Kitsune Boombox

London’s latest club extraordinaire “BoomBox” teams up with forward-thinking Parisian label Kitsuné for an exciting DJ mix project. It was only a matter of time before the audacious “BoomBox” night, which has brought back dressing-up and fun on the dancefloor, would push its connection further with the imaginative Franco-Japanese imprint that’s breaking all the rules. BoomBox’s main resident DJ Jerry Bouthier has long helped establishing bridges with the Parisian gang, frequently sharing the bill with the Kitsuné DJs in Paris and abroad and nurturing a similar passionate fondness for all things fusing rock, electro, rave and everything else in between.

Industry heavyweight Eelke Kleijn is no stranger to success. He made major waves last year with a string of very well received and highly circulated productions, and remixes. Shifting up and down gears with the grace of a royal chauffer, the talented young Rotterdam producer takes you from starting point to destination in style.

VA - A Dark Wave From the Black Sea
November 7, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
“A Dark Wave From The Black Sea” is the title of the forthcoming cat.no. 005 on the well-appreciated Exil-System imprint, a fourteen track compilation focusing on electronic music produced in countries around and close to the Black Sea like Romania, Georgia and others. Artists as different as Masstyk, Mihai Popoviciu, Aeronautica, Sun40 and others share the same vision and serve a menu of mostly 4-to-the-floor-based music, influenced by classical Electro-sounds, a bit of Minimal Techno, Drexciya’esque arrangements and Aathmosphere plus, as it seems, appreciation for all of the Clone / Viewlexx crew and their blueprint of (Neo) ItaloDisco, which makes this one quite essential for lovers of high quality club music.
Alter Ego - Why Not?
November 6, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
It’s been three years since Alter Ego’s last album, “Transphormer”, which means it’s about time that Roman Flugel and Jorn Elling Wuttke unleash more of their madness upon the world. Not that they’ve been exactly quiet: in the intervening years the duo have released six singles from “Transphormer” (and actually far more, if you count that “Rocker” was licensed to at least five international labels and inspired a bootleg or two in the process), being remixed by, well, just about everyone, including: Tiefschwarz, Ewan Pearson, Riton, Reinhard Voigt, Rework, Solvent, Matt John, Isolee, LoSoul, Freeform Five, Erol Alkan, Earl Shilton, Black Strobe, Plasticman, Erik Prydz, Josh Wink, Johannes Heil and MyMy.
