“Le Mix” mixed By Le Chic

Gigolo introduce Le Chic: a new female DJ duo from Spain who present here their first ever mix CD across twenty tracks of erotic electro futurism. From the sub-aquatic experimentalism of Drexciya to Patrick Pulsinger’s throbbing grooves or the synth riff freakout of The Requesters and Der Zyklus’s Kraftwerk infused beauty, ‘Le Mix’ traverses elements of italo, house, techno and electro into a modern dancefloor composite fused with soul and feeling. It cannot be said that Susana and Rebeca have a background that is consistent with being musicians - one a customising fashion designer and the other a geneticist - not exactly a typical start to a career in music.
But they have always shared a great passion for it since before meeting as students in Madrid where they had weekend jobs in the city’s club scene. Immediately recognising their strong similarities they became best of friends. With their degrees almost complete and after years of enjoying so many DJ’s sets it was time to try a more direct approach to the music they love. With more time on their hands they decided that they should be the DJ. Why not? As soon as they collected enough records they started playing very informally at small events around the city: fashion clothing stores; private parties; expositions etc.
Their first big opportunity came out of nowhere when they began running a little club on Sunday nights. It was autumn 2004. Methodically and meticulously taking care of every single detail from the graphics to the R.R.P.P team, and, of course, the music, they found a home. They were now the resident DJs. What they managed to create and nurture was a very special club with a unique atmosphere. In that little dark basement with red velvet curtains these two ladies found the perfect space to show that the “underground” could also be chic. So logically the night was christened LeChic and it is that name that they have taken in homage.
Within a year LeChic had gained a high enough profile to share the stage with some of the most important names in the capital giving them the perfect platform to launch their style further a field. Soon they were being asked to play at the most prominent festivals in the country: Sonar and Bennicassim, as well as playing at clubs in Madrid, Barcelona and beyond.
Then, they were invited by DJ Hell to play at the well known Sonar closing party that he organizes (“Hell & friends”). The very next day the Gigolo capo told them: “Ladies, I would love you to join the family”…a new chapter started. LeChic visited some of the most relevant clubs and Festivals in Spain or Europe: Florida135 (Fraga, Huesca), Privilege (Ibiza), Razzmatazz, Moog, La Paloma y Fellini (Barcelona), Lovejoy (Gijón), Industrial Copera, Opera 4 (Granada), Coppelia101, Rubble!, Le Garage, Specka, Lust & Play, Klubber´s Day Festival, Festival Pura Vida, Standart y R.E.C de Madrid; Fever (Nodata Club) (Bilbao), Sala Elástica (Almeria), Cotton Club (Lleida), Festival de Arte de Castilla la Mancha (Salamanca), Emporio (Sevilla), Le Club y Puzzle (Valencia), WMF (Berlín), Ampere (Munich), Café Borsa (Milano), Galería de Arte Contemporáneo (Bolognia).
LeChic have some new projects. They are working on their debut as producers as well as collaborating with other artists from Madrid. Besides this, they have made Le Mix for Gigolo Records, the very CD you now hold in your hands. As you can now experience for yourself, LeChic play electro, techno, tech-house, minimal or acid. They are always open to something new, changing their style subtly to reflect what each crowd would enjoy the most. But whether it’s softer, more uplifting, slower, harder, darker or faster it is always LeChic.
