Michael Ho - Screw The Coffemaker
October 30, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases |
Michael Ho is back, and this time it’s album time at Jay Haze’s Tuning Spork. But unlike other dance labels, they don’t release albums with two tracks you might play once, three collaborations with aging vocalists, and five ambient interludes. They don’t do that cos it sucks. Tuning Spork know you have dancefloors to fill, and that’s important to you. With his LP of all new material, Michael brings you an assortment of firecrackers that are poised to ignite in every club worldwide. This record is made to create total panic in clubs, bouncing between serious, sexy, and soulful. But for us, “soulful” doesn’t mean so polite that you would only play it at an expensive restaurant – it means raw and insane electronic grooves, which is why we left the dirt all over it.
Elsewhere, Michael’s basslines fight with the drums for your attention, the synths are screaming to escape, the effects crash like waves in the background. But as always with his productions, every single loop is crammed with details to get your body moving and your brain in a knot.
Born in Switzerland and having lived in Zimbabwe during his youth, in the last few years Michael Ho has developed a serious name for himself. As half of the duo Samim & Michael, he is responsible for a ton of big time releases and remixes for a handful of respected labels, and of course a string of hot solo EPs: 2005’s Frisky, 2006’s Econoclast, and this year’s Cassecade, which had more styles on one piece of wax than most producers manage to do with five or six.
And now, his debut album matches the high standard he has set for himself to date. In fact, Screw the Coffeemaker raises the bar once again, with a unique take on just about everything exciting in electronic music right now. With jacking grooves and slamming beats, Michael takes us back to the day when you didn’t have to call house music “funky” because all house had to be funky – if it wasn’t funky it was nothing!
There you have it: eleven tracks of Michael Ho in full flow. We think you are gonna love this one, and of course, Tuning Spork loves each and every one of you!
