Ade Fenton - Artificial Perfect

After co-producing Gary Numan’s “Jagged” album in 2006 (out on Mortal Records) Ade Fenton spent the next few months completing his own solo debut “Artificial Perfect” for the Submission label on May 7th. The link with Gary Numan is kept alive as the 9-track album also holds four tracks featuring Gary Numan on vocals. In related news, Fenton also worked on new versions of a number of classic Numan tracks including “Are Friends’ Electric?”, “Down In The Park” and “Metal”. He will start work on a new Gary Numan album in January 2007.

Robert Babicz - A Cheerful Temper

Cologne-based DJ and producer Robert Babicz aka Rob Acid, will release his new artist album titled “A Cheerful Temper” through Marc Romboy’s imprint, Systematic Recordings, in May. After a cycle of influential techno records in the late ’90s, the last couple of years have seen a series of quality releases for Babicz on such labels as Punkt, Treibstoff, Steve Bug’s Audiomatique, and Kompakt’s offshot K2. Despite the fact he’s been making music for almost two decades, Babicz is a classic example of an older and already established producer that has managed to stay relevant by constantly reinventing his sound.

Junior Boys remixes on Dead Horse EP

Based on the critical acclaim of their 2006 LP So This Is Goodbye the Canadian electro-pop duo Jeremy Greenspan and Johnny Dark, aka Junior Boys, are releasing an EP of remixes through Domino Records this April. Titled “Dead Horse” the EP brings together five artists from completely different fields and musical backgrounds to get their hands at some of the stand out tracks from the duo’s second album.

Armand Van Helden - Ghettoblaster

New York City-based DJ and producer Armand van Helden will release his sixth artist album, “Ghettoblaster” in May through Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried Records. The new LP is once again something different from what Van Helden produced in the past. In contrast to his last album, Nympho (2005), which focused mainly on electro-rock, “Ghettoblaster” is more soulful and hip-hop influenced. Guests on the LP include New York-based rappers Fat Joe and Will ‘Tha Wiz’ Lemay, Kudu, George Llanes, as well as vocalists Nicole Roux, Majida, and others.

Berlin-based techno princess and BPitch Control label boss, Ellen Allien, has mixed the 34th installment in the acclaimed Fabric compilation series, out early/late May. Allien’s mix features her favorite tracks of last year, as well as new ones, with cuts by the likes of Damian Schwartz, Cobblestone Jazz, Apparat, Heartthrob, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, Ben Klock, and many more. Ellen herself contributed to the mix with “Just a Woman,” one of the tracks from last years Just A Man/Woman EP, on which she collaborated with Detroit-based producer Matthew Dear (aka Audion).

Aril Brikha - Akire EP

Swedish producer Aril Brikha made his debut on Steve Bug’s Poker Flat Recordings with a three-track EP titled “Akire,” released March 26 on 12″ vinyl. Following his Winter EP release earlier this year (on Kompakt), the Stockholm-based DJ and producer now joins Poker Flat with a dose of hi-end melodic deep techno. On “Akire,” Brikha has dropped eclectic elements of electronic music, weaving warm hooks and spacey techno, resulting in his trademark spacious atmosphere and deepness. Brikha is currently working on his second artist album, a follow-up to his 2000 debut, Deeparture In Time, due for release later this year (May/June).

Titled “Rendez-Vous” the compilation features artists and tracks that have shaped the label over the four years of its existence; showcasing its past, present and future - on two CDs. CD 1 (unmixed) contains 12 exclusive tracks by artists such as Jamie Jones, Sebastien Bouchet, Marc Antona, Alfa Romero, Monoblock, and U&I (a collaboration between label boss Dan Ghenacia and French producer David K). CD 2 is a continuous DJ mix of the finest Fn’C releases to date mixed by labelmates Shonky and Dyed Soundorom.

Paul Hartnoll - The Ideal Condition

Paul Hartnoll, one half of the pioneering duo Orbital, will release his debut solo album titled “The Ideal Condition” - his first major release since he and his brother disbanded their legendary group three years ago. With arranger Chris Elliott, Hartnoll set about reversing the usual process and presented his compositions to an orchestra. The results of this union, 32 piece choir and the whole compliment of electronics are heard on the opening track, “Haven’t We Met Before,” which Hartnoll descibes as “the fullest track on the record in terms of the amount of people playing on it and number of different parts.”
