Ceephax - Volume One
March 17, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases |
Ceephax: also known as Andy Jenkinson provides here the first in two album instalments of new electronic music simply titled ‘Volumes One & Two’ that encompass an old school acid sensibility crossed with the energy and innovation of the famous “Universal Indicator” acid series, plus a melodic and moody experimental side that is revealed in his mellower moments. Following his debut remixes of Squarepusher’s “Bioslate” on Rephlex in 1998, he has released a multitude of EPs and albums on a variety of labels (Breakin’ / Firstcask / WeMe / Bug Klinik / Warp / Lo Recordings etc.) “Volume One” represents his first album since the highly acclaimed “Exidy Tours” in 2003, with a second instalment to follow later in 2007.
The style is Techno / Acid / House / Drum and Bass / Experimental / Ambient. Basically all electronic/dance styles, i.e Braindance. Similar in style to his other recent releases, only better!
At last year’s Glade festival, Ceephax gave a live performance injected with a lot of humour and some fantastic noises. In Jenkinson’s hands the sound of the 303 has taken on a new and important role that has surpassed the lame and predictable offerings from the psy trance and acid techno camps. With a nod towards yesterday’s hero’s from Detroit, Chicago, Holland and Germany, Ceephax pushes the acid sound to the limit, from one end of the sonic spectrum to the other. Pummelling technoid pounders, spazzed out breakbeats and other assorted genre-defying experiments allow Jenkinson to smash the wonders of acid into those fortunate enough to witness his live performances.
