January 29, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
Always fiercely independent, the legendary U.K. formation The Prodigy has established its own label, Ragged Flag, which will handle the band’s next, yet untitled album - a follow-up to 2004’s “Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned,” as well as all future projects. “We have been planning this for a while and we are looking forward to building our label up, starting off with the release of the new Prodigy album,” the band’s founder and frontman Liam Howlett told Billboard. Backed by U.K. independent imprint Cooking Vinyl, Ragged Flag will also subsequently act as an outlet for new talent that they find. “The Prodigy are one of the most relevant bands to today’s world. It is a real honor to be entrusted with handling affairs for Ragged Flag. This is a fantastic start to 2007, and it is the start of a new era for Cooking Vinyl,” comments Cooking Vinyl’s Managing Director Martin Goldschmidt.
FabricLive 32 mixed by Tayo
January 28, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
London-based DJ/producer Tayo stands proudly in the middle of contemporary bass culture and connects the dots - dubstep, baile funk, breakbeat and electro - to form the upfront sound of London’s underground. On “FabricLive 32″ Tayo flexes his sharp taste in music to show how, in one way or another, every track is laid out on a common ground and stamped with derivatives, breaking beats and barriers to prove that he cannot be branded with or simplified by the obligation and repression of musical genres. His mix features cuts from the likes of Skream, Bassbin Twins, Digital Mystikz, Rob Smith, Benga, as well as some of his own productions.
Luciano’s Cadenza Records unveils new concept
January 28, 2007 | Filed Under Artists, Labels, Releases | No Comments
Minimal techno has always been about stripping things down to their essence. With Cadenza’s Split Composition series, the opposite approach comes into play: building a new sound, and a new tradition. from the beats up. Each edition will consist of four sides of vinyl, broken out into several skeletal rhythm tracks and a handful of supplementary parts: ambient fantasias, shimmering drones, treated vocals, electro-acoustic collages. The series is a riff on the old idea of “DJ tools” offering stripped-down tracks meant to be mixed in performance. But the Split Composition series vastly expands upon that idea, both in terms of format and the music itself.
